BLOG TOUR - Quintessentially Q by Pepper Winters

TITLE: Quintessentially Q
AUTHOR: Pepper Winters
SERIES: Monsters in the Dark (Book 2)

“All my life, I battled with the knowledge I was twisted… fucked up to want something so deliciously dark —wrong on so many levels. But then slave fifty-eight entered my world. Hissing, fighting, with a core of iron, she showed me an existence where two wrongs make a right."

Tess is Q’s completely.  Q is Tess’s irrevocably.  But now, they must learn the boundaries of their unconventional relationship, while Tess seeks vengeance on the men who sold her.  Q made a blood-oath to deliver their corpses at Tess’s feet, and that’s just what he’ll do.

He may be a monster, but he’s Tess’s monster.

There are no words to express how much in love with this series I am.  Seriously.  Pepper Winters has an uncanny ability to make me feel so many emotions at once, it is unparalleled.  I felt scared, angry, downright terrified at times, but most of all I felt the wonder that is the unconventional love and connection that exists between Q and Tess.  Their love story isn't what fairytales are made of, but it is just as beautiful and gut wrenching.  It is one of the most emotional books I have read in a while.  If you haven't read Tears of Tess already, then I would highly recommend that you do, because I swear these are not books you want to miss.

The story picks up four days after Tess returns to Q.  After spending some time together Q asks Tess to come and work for him.  It is on her first day that all hell breaks loose and their world is not only turned upside down, but inside out.  Q has one thing on his mind and that is vengeance with a capital V!  He goes to the ends of the earth and back again in order to exact his revenge on those who took from him.  During this time, I loved how we were able to find out more about Franco and Frederick and the influence they have on Q. They were able to pull him back from the brink on more than one occasion, thus giving us an insight to other aspects of Q's character.  By the end of the book I had a greater understanding of the complexities that make up Q.

As we already know Tess is a strong minded woman.  However what she has to go through this time is enough to try her strength and may be what finally breaks her.  I don't really want to say much more than this because in doing so I run the risk of giving away spoilers and believe me there is so much that happens in this book that it would be so easy to inadvertently do so.  What I will say is this, Tess and Q go through so much in this book that it will change them forever.

This is definitely a roller coaster ride of emotions that will have your head and heart in a spin throughout.  Pepper pulls you in from page one and by the time you reach the end you realise that the lightheaded feeling is because you have been forgetting to breathe the whole time!!  I honestly cannot praise this book or series high enough.  As I was preparing this page and looking over the teasers and excerpts, looking at them and reading them, conjured up the feelings of the story at that time and made me want to read it all over again.  There are very, very few authors who have the ability to make me want to do that and that is why I have added the name Pepper Winters to my small list of favourite authors.

I was given the choice of a few excerpts, but this one is the one that I felt summed up the whole book for me.  DD

Q moved suddenly, pushing off from the cage and striding toward the entrance of the aviary.  He unlocked the deadbolt and entered the space.  Birds chirped louder as Q stood in the centre of their world.  He looked like a man robbed of his own wings.  A fallen angel that had no place on earth and fought a daily battle to fit in.

I stepped forward.  Should I say something?  Comfort him?  My heart twisted, needing to be there for him, but no longer able to.  No matter how many kind words I spoke, Q would see I no longer lived inside.

My soul jangled with chains and locks, saving me but also ruining me.  The longer I lived in my tower the more passion and connection faded.

I hated the numbing virus inside, spreading slowly, deleting all memory of who Tess had been.  I was replaced with a carbon replica who would float away in the wind, robbed of her convictions and thoughts.  All because I wasn’t strong enough to face what I’d done.

Q cursed under his breath, his chest pumping with emotion.  “Why should I keep you when you don’t want to be here?  You’re not here for me.  You’re here because I lock you up.  You’re my prisoners, my captives, my trophies.”

He hung his head before waving his arms.  “Allez vous-en. Je ne veux plus de vous.  Elle ne veut plus de plus alors ça sert à quoi, putain? ”  Fly away.  I no longer want you.  She no longer wants me, so what's the fucking point?

The birds went crazy, darting left and right, spying freedom through the open door.  They exploded through the exit and into the conservatory, weaving through plants and water features.

Wings rustled as I ducked from a small flock of robins.

“Get out!” Q yelled; the birds flurried harder.  “Get far away from me.”

I stepped backward, not wanting to see Q breakdown.  I wanted it to hurt—to kill me with knowledge that I’d ripped out his heart—but all I felt was emptiness.

Q looked up and froze.

His eyes locked on mine, shining with rage and blackness. I prayed for some awakening, so I could put both of us out of our misery.  I wanted to bring forth all my love for him and keep hiding from my guilt.  I wanted to erase the darkness, the lostness and hate from his eyes, but I was useless.

Bowing my head, I dropped my gaze.

Q cursed, exiting the aviary, humming with anger and rage.  He stalked toward me, stopping so close his body heat seared my skin.

I flinched, expecting him to lash out—to grab my hair, slap me—something to wake me up.

When he didn’t touch me, I looked up.  Q murmured, “So low you must think of me.”

He captured a curl, running it gently through his fingertips.  “Fly away, esclave, if that is what you want.  I won’t stop you.”  His tone was bleak and derelict.

Rereading this, ripped me apart, all over again.  DD

Pepper Winters wears many roles. Some of them include writer, reader, sometimes wife. She loves dark, taboo stories that twist with your head. The more tortured the hero the better and she constantly thinks up ways to break and fix her characters.

Oh, and sex… her books have sex.

She loves to travel and has an amazing, fabulous hubby (who speaks French—hot!) who puts up with her love affair with her book boyfriends. She loves to hear from her readers so hit her up at pepperwinters@gmail.com

Pepper is offering up (5) eBook copies of Tears of Tess (INTL) and (2) swag packs
(INTL) up for grabs. Giveaway ends at 11:59 PM CST 12/30/2013

REVIEW - Something's Come Up by Andrea Randall & Michelle Pace

TITLE: Something's Come Up
AUTHOR: Andrea Randall & Michelle Pace

*Something's Come Up contains strong language and sexual content. It's intended for mature, 18+ audiences only*

“Feeling dangerous tonight?”

“I’m with you, aren’t I?”

Feeling humiliated after her movie star ex's public betrayal, Stephanie escapes on a spontaneous road trip. She detours for a sexual rendezvous down memory lane with her former frenemy with benefits, attorney Pace Turner.

When Pace gets an unexpected phone call from the one woman he’s never forgotten, his libido slams into overdrive. Steph is the only one who knows everything about the self-obsessed young millionaire, inside the bedroom and out, and his buried desires bubble to the surface.

Over a sex-fueled 24 hours, megalomaniac Pace and sociopath Steph relive their doomed “romance.” Will they rediscover their complicated and gritty connection, or merely pour salt into poorly healed wounds?

Andrea Randall (author of The November Blue series) and Michelle Pace (author of The Sound Wave series) unite their universes in “Something’s Come Up.”

I received an ARC, in return for an honest review.

I wasn't entirely sure what to expect from this book, but once I started it, I couldn't put it down.  This is a crossover between the 'November Blue Series' by [author: Andrea Randall] and 'The Sound Wave Series' by [author: Michelle Pace].  Although these characters are from other series, this novella can be read as a stand alone.

Pace Turner is due to attend a party when he gets a phone call from Stephanie Brier, which puts an end to those plans.  Stephanie and Pace are 'friends with benefits' and have been for a number of years.  They cannot give into the passion that burns between them.  This book covers events from their first meeting right up to the present day.

As the story progressed, I found myself hoping they would sort things out and get together.  They have fire, they have passion, but they also have issues.  For a couple that seem so wrong, they were also so right for each other.  Will they overcome their selfishness?  Will they overcome their commitment issues?  Will they ever realise they are meant to be?

BLOG TOUR - A Home For Christmas by Ann Vaughn

TITLE: A Home for Christmas
AUTHOR: Ann Vaughn
RELEASED: 28th November 2013

Single mom, Jenna Blackwell wasn’t having a very good start to the Christmas season; her purse got stolen on Black Friday. She’s cursing her luck and herself for even being out in the Black Friday madness when the store manager brings in Riley Stanton, a former Navy SEAL who chased down the thieves and recovered her purse. Jenna is blown away by Riley: his looks, his smile, the fact that he ran down the purse snatchers, everything.

Riley Stanton had no idea when he chased down the kids who stole a few purses that he would walk into a room and have his life changed forever. He looked into the eyes of Jenna and saw a strength in her that he found intriguing.

Riley soon learns that Jenna is everything he ever wanted in a woman. He falls for her and for her son harder than he expected to. Jenna is cautious but welcoming and hopes that she and her son can give Riley the one thing he hasn’t had in years, A Home for Christmas.

    Book Trailer

As you may be aware, I have a bit of a soft spot for Ann Vaughn.  When she very kindly provided me with ARC's for her first two books, I was more than happy to review them.  The fact that I thoroughly enjoyed them was an additional bonus.  So when this book came out, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it.  Like her previous books, I was unable to put it down.  This was a one sitting read for me.

The book doesn't have excessive amount of drama, it doesn't have a 'will they won't they' thing going on.  What it does have is a fantastic feel good factor to it from start to finish!  Riley had spotted Jenna just prior to the purse snatching, and in that moment, he knew he wanted to get to know her better, and so heralds the start of a beautiful love story.  Jenna has refrained from dating since her divorce five years previously, but when the handsome stranger who got her purse back for her, walked into the store managers office, she was hooked.  Her only concerns about starting a relationship, was the effect it would have on her 10 year old son Cam, and whether or not Riley would be able to accept she had a child.

Life wasn't to be all plain sailing though.  Once her ex-husband found out she had someone new in her life, he decided to try and ruin it for her.  In doing so, he brought his problems to her door, which only gave Riley the opportunity to pull on his resources and provide Jenna and Cam with all the security and protection he possibly could.

I love how Ann Vaughn can write a happy story, that has the ability to keep you turning the page to see what happens next.  This book is one I will be keeping on my e-reader, just for the feel good factor alone.  It is an easygoing read, that will have the ability to pull you out of a funk and put that smile back on your face and that "Ahh" back in your vocabulary!

Ann Vaughn is a Native Texan now living in Oklahoma. She's been writing since the seventh grade (many MANY moons ago) when she and her friends were obsessed with the Sweet Valley High series. Back then, access to books wasn't as easy as it is now, so to tide her over between SVH releases, she began writing her own, Texas versions of SVH, full of lots of Texas Friday Night Lights and pitfalls and perils of teenage life in the 80s. Writing has always been a comfort and a release for her, though she never expected to be published. It wasn't until a conversation with her husband about the rise of eBooks that she decided to try her hand at self-publishing. It was scary and exciting and ever since the release of her first book, Long Way Home on August 7, 2013 she has been on a wild roller coaster ride that she wouldn't trade for the world.

TouchStone for play:
Book 1 of The Story of Us Trilogy
by Sydney Jamesson

About The Trilogy

The trilogy includes many of the familiar tropes associated with adult romance but so much more. As a reader you will be transported into an archetypal, fairy tale landscape where a princess is pursued by a wolf and wooed by Prince Charming. In reality, the fairy tale elements are slotted into a contemporary framework: a media driven world at the centre of which sits Ayden Stone. Beware … the fairy tale elements will have you spellbound, and the alluring powers of Miss Parker will endear her to you from the very first page as she speaks candidly and narrates, “The Story of Us …”

Elizabeth Parker is a 27 year old English teacher who is waiting to be found. Like the secrets of her past, her beauty is hidden, concealed behind modest clothes and a gentle nature. Her nights are spent listening to music and reading; fictional characters whisk her away to exotic destinations and lovers come and go. Sadly none remain once she turns over the final page. It’s then she finds herself estranged from the world outside her window. All she can do is secretly wish for more, wish for love, wish for a man like Ayden Stone ….

Into her secluded world enter two powerful men, one from her past and one very much in the present; both are loners, both intimidating, both desiring her sexually with a craving that threatens to erupt and overspill at a moment’s notice like champagne from a bottle. Initially, she cannot grasp the magnitude of their desire; it’s an alien concept for one so inexperienced and uninitiated in the art of seduction. She must allay her fear, hold tight and allow one of them to steer her towards deep and dangerous waters before embarking upon a voyage of sexual awakening.

Handsome 32 year old playboy, Ayden Stone is flawless; he’s a smooth operator, as skilled in the bedroom as he is in the boardroom. He has a taste for rare and beautiful things, and he longs to taste the beguiling Miss Parker. He’ll stop at nothing to add her to his collection of exquisite possessions. Ayden and Beth are drawn to each other like iron fillings to a magnet: helpless, stripped bare, literally and metaphorically. All the glitz and glamour of his five-star life-style is contrasted with less extravagant pastimes; intimacy gives rise to passion and passion to playfulness and the realisation of a fateful connection.

In the shadows lurks former boxer Dan Rizler. He’s biding his time but never loses sight of the object of his desire: precious Miss Parker. He has an obsessive love for her that is neurotic in nature and terrifying in the extreme. His tormented soul reaches out to her with merciless hands: he must have her.

TouchStone for play is a genuine 21st century love story with the sensitivity to move you to tears; to have you laugh out loud, to rouse your fears and to exhilarate. Some of the sex is very erotic and raunchy at times, particularly towards the end of the book when there are confessions and revelations that will shock you. Very little is as it seems and a dramatic climax will leave you breathless with anticipation.

This modern fairy tale is full of romantic moments, music and monstrous encounters. Elizabeth Parker is about to be found but will she be bound by her destiny or by her demon …

The Story of Us continues …   in TouchStone for giving.

Comments by the Author

For as long as I can remember, I have lived with The Story of Us in my head; the fact that Elizabeth Parker is an English teacher should come as no surprise to you: as novelists we write, initially, about what we know … Yet, I should confess, she isn’t me but rather that young, sensitive and naïve woman we all were or still are. The difference being, she has been victimised and, because of it, remained hidden. But, unlike some other characters who may have suffered at the hands of others, she is not damaged: wary yes, but not damaged. She still believes people are innately good and that is one of her many qualities. It is her propensity for compassion that allows her to invite Ayden Stone into her world when, on the face of it, he’s exactly what she doesn’t need.

So that’s me, furiously typing away until the early hours, creating an epic tale that covers an 18 month period, taking three novels to unveil the intricacies of a 21st century fairy tale

Book 2 of The Story of Us Trilogy
by Sydney Jamesson

Elizabeth Parker has been found …

Like a falling star she has come down to earth, landing painfully on the debris of a broken dream. What she thought of as love now seems no more than a wish left unfulfilled. Her future lies in the hands of two powerfully possessive men; each desiring her to the point of insanity.

Flawless media mogul Ayden Stone oversees her voyage of sexual awakening, introducing her to new experiences and a secret world behind locked doors, away from prying eyes. But … is he Prince Charming or merely the great pretender?

With a fighter’s instinct, Dan Rizler continues to box clever; taking his time, waiting for the right moment to strike. He will have his Princess one way or another.

Into this twisted triangle enters Elise Richards; a woman with a past and a passion for revenge: hell hath no fury like Miss. Richards.

This is a modern fairy tale full of romance, secrets and suspense. Elizabeth Parker is about to be caught, held fast by the hand of fate; but will she be caught out or caught up in an affair of the heart, body and soul?

When nothing else matters … you have to do or die.

The Story of Us will continue …   in TouchStone forever.
