I would never have thought that I would have enjoyed reading romance novels as much as I do, previously I would only read thrillers and suspense novels. I still read them, but now I enjoy a wider variety of genre and I am also more inclined to try new authors, instead of sticking to the same favourites.
A few months ago, I wrote a review for 'TouchStone for play' by Sydney Jamesson and after that I decided to set up this blog. Mainly because I wanted to share with others my thoughts on the books I had been reading, but also to thank all the brilliant authors that give up their time to provide me with hours of entertainment. I have become increasingly aware that blogs and reviews are vital to getting word out for indie authors, so if my reviews can help in any way then I am happy with that.
I will not write bad reviews. If I have read a book that I haven't enjoyed, I will not write review for that book. If the book is part of a Blog Tour and I don't think I could give it a minimum of 3.5 stars I will contact the organisers of the Tour. My main reason for this is just because I don't enjoy the storyline, or the authors style of writing, does not mean someone else won't. My other reason is the author has worked hard on their work, it is their 'baby' and I refuse to willingly rip their hard work up, just because it wasn't to my liking. I am of the belief that if you can't say anything good, don't say anything at all!
I have put a description of what my star ratings mean to ME!
5* plus. I'll give this when the book was well written and the storyline and characters were both well developed and believable. I'll have been completely consumed, emotionally and I will have read it in one sitting. It will have left me with an almighty book hangover!
5*. Much like the 5* plus, only difference being I some parts of the story won't have held my attention as much. The writing and characters would be on a very similar level for the vast majority of the book. Again if I've given it this rating I'll have suffered another book hangover.
4.5*. A bit like the 5*, however, I won't have felt the urge to consistently carry on to the next page/chapter and would've found it easier to put down. There may also have been certain parts of the story that I found had to believe or irritating.
4*. Whilst still enjoyable, I will have felt that some areas could have been developed further. It wouldn't have held my attention as much as others, and I possibly won't have felt I could relate to the characters to the same degree.
3.5*. If I have given 3.5* then I may have struggled to finish the book. I have never used this rating yet, and I hope to never have to in the future.
I would like to say that the above are all MY own opinions, based on works I have read.
