I was a son,
A friend,
A brother,
A psychopath.
Eighteen years of being in a psyche ward; I was released into the world. Things have changed, Blake is married to Melody and is a father to my new fixation, Cereus. My beautiful niece who knows nothing of my existence. When consequences of past sins begin playing tricks on me, old cravings demand to be satisfied.
There is no cure for my kind of sickness.
I am void of everything but obsession.
I can’t love,
I can’t feel,
I am Desolate.

Ker Dukey has an amazing talent. In Empathy I hated Ryan. However, during the course of this book, I found myself warming to him a little. Yes, he is still as manipulative, yes, he is still as evil, but underneath all that there was something else, that made me see there was a little bit of good in him. Not much, but still there all the same. As the storyline progressed and questions were gradually answered, I really hoped he would be able to find some peace. Now that is quite a talent for an author to make you feel something for a character, who in all honesty has not an ounce of decency in his body.
This book is set 18 years after the end of Empathy. Blake and Melody are happily married, they have a seventeen year old daughter, Cereus. They are blissfully happy, until the day Blake gets the call that will turn their lives upside down and inside out. Again.
I absolutely loved this book, once I started, I couldn't put it down. I was drawn in, right from the very first page. It is non-stop from there right up until the very end. Ker did not put the brakes on once! As we catch up on the events that were right at the beginning of the book, I was screaming internally "No, no, no, no, no...!" I HAD to check out the ending right then, and I NEVER do that! I have always been able to stop myself. Only, on this occasion, knowing how Ker's mind worked throughout this book, I had no other option than to check, and pray I was wrong.
If Empathy is still sitting on your TBR shelf, my advice is to move that baby up to the top, so you can devour the twisted delight that is Desolate.
My Rating

I have always had a passion for storytelling, whether it be through lyrics or bed time stories with my sisters. I wanted to be an actress growing up so I could live many roles but I learned early on that my mind was too active... I would want to change the script.I would watch films and think of ways they could of improved the story if they took another direction so i thought it best that i tell my own.
My mum would always have a book in her hand when I was young and passed on her love for reading, inspiring me to venture into writing my own. I tend to have a darker edge to my writing. Not all love stories are made from light, some are created in darkness but are just as powerful and worth telling.
When I'm not lost in the world of characters I love spending time with my family. I'm a mum and that comes first in my life but when I do get down time I love attending music concerts or reading events with my younger sister.
You can find me on Facebook where i love interacting with my readers.
