A modern day Dark Erotic Romance

Wow, just WOW! I have been looking forward to getting this book, since Pepper first announced it, and boy she did not disappoint. Not that there was ever any doubt in my mind that she would. From the very first paragraph, I was hooked.

Nila is so innocent. She is protected by the two men in her life, her Dad and her twin brother. They have protected her to the point that she is seeking passion, in any form she can get it. This is her ultimate downfall. One night her father introduces her to Jethro Hawk. She thinks her father has introduced her to Jethro for a date.Which he has, but just not the sort of date she had in mind.

Jethro is dark to his core. He is cold and has no compassion at all. He has had a brutal upbringing and for his 29th birthday, his father told him about his 'inheritance'. Only this inheritance isn't something he will want to treasure, this is something that he MUST destroy.

Jethro starts his distruction of Nila but he doesn't count on her strength and determination. He doesn't count on Nila's capacity to make him feel, even for short periods of time. He doesn't understand why he feels anything, never mind jealousy, no matter how brief.

Nila draws her strength from unusual sources. She starts out timid and afraid, but quickly finds herself strong enough to stand up to the monsters and face whatever they decide to unleash on her as her punishment.

Every part of this story had me hooked and desperate to turn the page. At the end of every chapter I promised myself I would read one more before I went to sleep. Then at the end, I had to go straight back to the beginning and reread. I loved it THAT much. I had so many questions at the end of my first read through that I thought a reread would give me the answer to some of them. Only they just added to the ever growing list!

I love Pepper Winters writing. I love how she is able to make me love her characters, despite their flaws. No matter how bad Jethro is, little slithers of humanity break through his cold exterior. Nila may have started out naive, but she quickly found her inner fight, only hinting at the strong female she has the capacity to be.

I cannot wait until book two. There are many reasons why Pepper Winters is one of my favourite authors. Indebted only adds to that list.

ONE - Nina's POV

“Huge disappointment, Ms. Weaver.” His cold glare sent a snowstorm wiping away the bonfire in my belly. “I’m done playing games, so cut the bullshit. Time to begin the day.” His voice gave no room for interpretation. A cold draft shot down my back.

My brief reprieve from debts and horrible Hawks was over. I’d been shown something I desperately wanted, but denied it because I failed to please him.

“You could teach me…show me how…” I couldn’t make eye contact with him. Mortification painted my cheeks for both admitting I was clueless and asking a monster to coach me.

Jethro laughed. “You think that will save you from what’s coming? Was that your little plan? To make me fuck you in the hopes I might feel something for you?”

TWO - Jethro's POV

I stood up slowly, clicking my tongue. “Ah, ah, ah, Ms. Weaver. Don’t take that tone with me. You’re the failure. You’re the prisoner. You take what I give you. You do not assume to have any say or authority. That includes listening to everything I deem important to tell you.” Ghosting to a stop in front of her, I murmured, “Is that quite understood?”

I flexed my muscles, welcoming back the soothing chillness of control. I hadn’t liked stepping outside my confines of civility. Things got messy when silence was disrupted. Things got rushed when tempers rose and curses flowed.

And I didn’t want to rush her undoing. I wanted to savour it. Devour it.

Pepper Winters wears many roles. Some of them include writer, reader, sometimes wife. She loves dark, taboo stories that twist with your head. The more tortured the hero, the better, and she constantly thinks up ways to break and fix her characters. Oh, and sex... her books have sex.

She loves to travel and has an amazing, fabulous hubby who puts up with her love affair with her book boyfriends.
