BLOG TOUR: True Bliss by BJ Harvey

Title: TRUE BLISS (Bliss #2)
Author: BJ Harvey
Published: November 25th
Organised by: The Book Avenue

She watched her best friend find her superhero.

Now she wants her turn.

Despite a run of bad dates with Mr. Wrong, Mr. Boring, Mr. Bad Breath, Mr. Grabby Hands, and even Mr. Say I Love You After One Date To Get Into Your Pants, Kate McGuinness is more determined than ever to find the one.

Having tried everything else, she turns to the internet in a last ditch attempt to find her elusive prince.
But Kate doesn’t want an everyday, run of the mill love.

She wants the kind of love that makes your heart skip a beat. The kind of love that makes you dance in the rain and bottle up the sunset. The once in a lifetime kind of love that authors write about, musicians sing about, and lovers dream about.

Could a certain police officer in training, who has come to her rescue in the past, be the one to swoop in and save her heart?

What if the love Kate desperately seeks has been in front of her the whole time?

She just needs to open her eyes to see it...

*Disclaimer: This book contains a hot as hell stripper with a penchant for public sex and exhibitionism who may or may not succeed in bringing out the inner firecracker in all of us.  Oh, and don't forget the batteries.*

Letting out a huge sigh, I realize that I’m spending another night sitting at home by myself at...yep 10 p.m., and drowning my sorrows about the sorry state of my love life. Granted, Roger was just my first online date, but if he’s anything to go by, I should be running for the hills. Or the nearest convent. If I wasn’t so determined to give it a real shot, I’d be closing up shop now, resigning myself to a single life with lots of cats, and being aunty to Mac and Daniel’s kids.

But that’s definitely not what I want, and I’m determined, so I grab the laptop off the coffee table in front of me and boot it up, bringing up the Chicago Singles website and logging in. I see a reminder that my date with Roger has come and gone. How insightful, little website. Can you also tell when the date is full of shit and boring as hell because that could have saved me a hell of a lot of effort!

I check to see whether Boring Roger has rated our date yet, and almost spit out my mouthful of wine when I see he rated it four out of five hearts. What the fuck! He must be more deluded that I thought. That date was a dull as dishwater. The only thing exciting about it was my brief encounter with Zander across the bar. And as embarrassing as that was, he still managed to get a way hotter response from my body than Roger could ever achieve.

When I was given the opportunity to read this book early, it was a no brainer for me!  I was rubbing my hands in glee and checking my email every day, from the minute I signed up for the Blog Tour.  Stomping my foot every day the ARC still wasn't showing in my inbox!  Then there it was...  True Bliss indeed...  I devoured it in one sitting.  Truly could not tear myself away from it.  I swooned.  I laughed.  I sighed with happiness and I swooned some more!

True Bliss picks up roughly around the same time frame, from where Temporary Bliss ended.  Although the books are from the same series, they are stand alones, however, I would highly recommend reading Temporary Bliss, as you are introduced to the characters in that one, and the main characters (Mac and Daniel) appear a lot in True Bliss as Mac and Kate are best friends.  Add to the fact that Temporary Bliss is another brilliant read and it really is a win/win!

Kate was having no luck in the love department.  She had been on a string of disastrous dates.  Nothing seemed to be going right for her in her love life.  She wanted some of what Mac and Daniel had, but it seemed to be eluding her at every turn.  Her confidence had taken a knock and she was now trying to forget that one specific embarrassing night.

Zander, is sexy as hell, I swear I don't know who I love more, Daniel or Zander, but I think Zander may just tip the scales.  He is kind, considerate, sexy, funny, thoughtful, hot, did I mention sexy?  He likes Kate, but he's never been a 'relationship' type of guy and he sees Kate as worthy of something more.  Can he give her that?

While Kate and Zander carry out their 'Will They/Won't They' dance, we are treated to further glimpses into Mac and Daniels life together.  Between both these couples, there are loads of laugh out loud moments.  The craziness from Temporary Bliss, spills over into this one too!

RELEASE DAY PARTY - Rock Bottom by R.K. Lilley

I had to put on a neutral face when I saw Him. Things were even worse that I’d imagined, and I’d imagined a lot.

He was shirtless and barefoot in the kitchen, jeans slung low on his hips, holding an empty bottle of vodka and bellowing something about finding out who’d drunk it all and not replaced it. He looked like he’s lost thirty pounds since I’d seen him last. The bones in his face had become alarmingly prominent. He’d had the healthy look of someone that bulked up at the gym before, but it was when he was thin like this that you saw that he was a big man, no matter what. It wasn’t just his height, though he was very tall, but his very bones where what made up the large frame that sent him apart.

His eyes were scary, and they widened as he recognized me. He slammed the empty vodka bottle on the counter, the clanking sound it made loud enough to make me jump.

I wanted to cry, he looked so bad. Could he come back from this? Could either of us? I told myself firmly that it wasn’t a question anymore. We had to.

BLOG HOP - Wanted by Kimberly Knight

From the moment she first saw him running on the treadmill next to her, Spencer Marshall had fallen head over heels in love with Brandon Montgomery. After Spencer has a near-death experience she would rather forget, they do their best to move on with their lives, leaving their past behind them.

Thankful for a fresh start and eager to move on with her life, Spencer focuses on helping her best friend Ryan Kennedy plan her wedding. Everything seems to be going as planned when someone from Brandon's past reappears. Can Spencer and Brandon survive the coming days as they struggle to deal with ghosts from the past?

Wanted picks right up from Where I Need To Be, ended.  After the incident with Christy, Spencer and Brandon decide to take their relationship to the next level and Spencer moves in with him.  Life for the two of them moves on, but Spencer is still seeing the creepy Trevor, from Vegas, hanging about.  As things progress with the planning of Ryan’s wedding, Spencer thinks more and more about where her relationship with Brandon is heading.

The book on was a good read and easy to follow.  I was glued and couldn’t put it down until I was finished.  There were lots of hot moments between Spencer and Brandon, and it is evident they adore each other.  Brandon is the perfect alpha male, protective, fun and caring.  Spencer is by no means a wimpy girl, she is strong and independent.  I love how protective Spencer and Ryan are of each other also.  They are the best kind of friends.  Wanted has a good mixture of romance, mystery and suspense.

Be warned though, the book does end on a cliff and I would recommend having book 3 to hand to continue with as soon as you have finished this one.  I enjoyed this book, and if I was to give it any criticism at all it would be that some of the story lines could be expanded more.  However, this does not in any way detract from the story.

BLOG TOUR - Incredible Dreams by S.E. Felida

TITLE: Incredible Dreams
AUTHOR: S.E. Felida
SERIES: Dreams (Book #1)
GENRE: Romantic Suspense

Leona, a woman in her late twenties who has been dreaming about a guy that she doesn't know finally sees him in real life one day, but she doesn't approach him out of bizarreness of the whole situation and that leaves her with an feeling of missed opportunity, so when life gives her a second chance she grabs it with both hands. Nathaniel, a police officer who's been on a hunt to find his brother's killer for over a year now turns out to be a dreamguy in real life too, and while things are going great between the two of them, Leona's long life friendship with her dear friend Naomi isn't. Resenting the thought of having to choose between the two of them she and her two friends Alyssa and Alexandra come up with an idea to whisk Naomi away for a little holiday in the hopes that after they'd spend some quality time together things would finally go back to the way it used to be, but it doesn't and when Marcus, Naomi's current boyfriend who followed them out there confesses something to Leona that she really wished he hadn't, she keeps finding it harder and harder to even look her best friend in the eyes without feeling like the worst friend ever...

I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The book had everything I like and more.  There was romance, suspense and intrigue, hot sex, good strong lead characters and support characters, Hot Sex, a gorgeous male lead (police officer with a tongue piercing - HELLO!!) and did I mention the HOT SEX??  Throughout the storyline is also laced with some comical moments, which helps relieve some of the heavier parts.

Leona, Alyssa, Alexandra and Naomi are flat mates and best friends. Throughout the difficult times in her past, Naomi has always been there for Leona.  I don't want to give anything away with regards to the storyline, as it would be too easy to inadvertently give away a spoiler.  What I will say is that Leona and her friends have the kind of friendship that many of us could relate to.  S.E. Felida brings the characters to life so expertly, you feel that what they are going through, what they are doing, what they are feeling, they are doing it all in front of you.  Every emotion, action, conversation, they all come alive and wrap you up and suck you in, until you can do nothing else but turn the page to see what happens next.

The storyline can flow from funny, to romantic, to hot and steamy, to suspense and to some dark plot lines without any problems.  The author maintains a good balance throughout the book without detracting from the seriousness of the plot.  The characters are all believable, some are likeable, some are hateful and others are just plain H.O.T!  Nathaniel, need I say more?  He is like the proverbial onion, peel away one layer and there's another one just waiting to be discovered.

Now anyone who follows my reviews, knows how much I hate reading a book, only to find the ending is a cliffhanger (I am not ashamed to say I have no patience!).  Guess what?  Yup, this one had a 'Holy Crap, No F**king Way Can This Be The Ending' type of cliffhanger!  If I say I was waiting for my Kindle to say 'Ha only kidding, here is the rest of the story', will you think less of me??  Well I don't care, because that is exactly what I found myself doing!  I sat there, with 100% read and unable to turn another page, did that stop me trying though??  Nooooo!  Thankfully, my Kindle remains in one piece (probably because I was waiting on someone to tell me they had forgotten to send me the full file and here was the ending!!) so now I am waiting, somewhat impatiently, for book two.  However, at this point, I have to hold my hand up and say kudos to S.E. Felida for providing an outstanding ending that never in my wildest dreams had I seen coming.  It is one thing having a cliffhanger, it is another thing entirely to have the ending come right out of the blue and blind side you completely.  If you have to end on a cliffhanger, then that is how I want them done EVERY time.  I was left breathless and speechless.  I felt like my heart rate was kicked up into dangerous territory and I loved it!

Would I recommend this book?  Absolutely, without any hesitation.

We arrived at Club N around two and I excused myself straight away to go and find Naomi. I couldn’t see her anywhere in the main club, so I made my way up to the office. Her door was slightly open and she was sitting at her desk; it seemed like she was talking to someone but there was no one to be seen.  Thinking she was on the phone I waited for her to finish, but after a few minutes I noticed her cell lying on the corner of her desk. Could I be about to interrupt her on some sort of office booty call?  The thought of someone hidden under the desk, pleasuring my friend, made me want to laugh out loud. Oh my God, no; Naomi wasn’t that kind of girl. She was far too shy for that, especially with the door open.

I leaned in closer to try and make out what she was saying and could only just about hear her whispers. “Stop asking me to do that, I wouldn’t do that to her, she’s one of my best friends and I love her to death.” She was almost crying and sounded slightly unhinged as she talked. “Even if I wanted to do it, I couldn’t because he’s always with her. Just stop it, I can’t handle you in my head anymore, get out, get out and leave me alone.”

She sat on the floor and curled her knees up into her arms, then she started rocking back and forth like an upset child. All of a sudden she began hitting herself on the head and between sobs, started chanting, “Get out of my head, get out of my head, I won’t do it, I won’t do it, I won’t.” What the hell is going on? Who is she talking to?

Unable to bear seeing my friend like this any longer I tried to decide the best thing to do. It was starting to freak me out. Had she lost her mind? Was she seeing ghosts? Was she possessed? Every frightening scenario flashed through my mind in those moments and I didn’t know what to do, I didn’t want her to think I was spying on her.

I decided I couldn’t leave her like this, so I pushed the door wide open and walked over to her on the floor. I tapped her on the shoulder and called out to her but she didn’t react. I tried again, louder this time, Naomi! What the hell is wrong with you girl?”

She turned to look at me, but her face was almost unrecognizable. She was so pale, as if all the blood has rushed from her face, and her pupils were fully dilated. I didn’t want to say it, but she looked scary.  Mascara trails created crooked black paths from her eyes, down her cheeks and over her nose, and she was looking straight through me. As if I wasn’t really there. She didn’t look like Naomi at all and it sent chills down my spine.

I knelt down beside her and threw my arms around her shoulders, trying my best to comfort her.  “Naomi, please answer me, what’s wrong? Who were you talking to?” She didn’t respond; it was as if she was in some kind of trance and I couldn’t pull her out of it.

Beginning to get desperate for a reaction, any reaction would do right now, I took her arms in my hands and shook her violently. That only seemed to agitate her though, and she screamed in my ears, “I won’t do it, I won’t!”

Not knowing what else to try, I text the girls and told them I needed help. I thought it was best not to let the guys in on this though, so I mentioned to leave them downstairs. It had crossed my mind that Naomi had taken some sort of drug to make her so out of character and I didn’t want her to get arrested. Even if she hadn’t, it wasn’t very nice for them to see her like this. The girls didn’t listen though, and when they arrived Nathaniel walked in behind them, both Joshua and Anthony were in tow.

“Wow, I sensed that something was really bad up here and I wasn’t wrong, was I?”

The first thing they did was switch on the lights; I had already grown so accustomed to the dark in my haste to get through to Naomi that I didn’t even notice the lights were still off. “What’s wrong with your friend, Leona? Why is she crying there on the floor? Did you argue with her as well?” Wow, Nate didn’t just say that did he? I swear I’d never felt the urge to slap someone in my life, as much as I wanted to slap him right then. Not even Vivian.

Right now wasn’t the time to get into an argument though, so I ignored him. Besides, I knew that he was only trying to provoke me in an attempt to get me to speak to him again. Realizing that he wasn’t going to get a rise from me, he took control of the situation; telling the girls to clear Naomi’s desk and getting Joshua to help him put her on it.

As he picked her up, she draped her arms around him, and for a split second it seemed like she was nuzzling his neck. She breathed heavily, her chest heaving as she took in his scent. I thought I was imagining it until she held on to the back of his head and grinned at me. What the hell was she playing at? I wanted to say something, but she let loose my gaze in the blink of an eye. It all happened so quickly that I began to second guess myself as to whether it had actually happened. Could my mind be playing tricks on me? It’s feasible that I had too many glasses of wine at the party.

“Anthony, go and ask the door staff if they have any of those smelling salts they use on people when they faint.” Nathaniel’s words snapped me out of my thoughts.

“You’re not really going to use them on her are you? If she’s not resistant nothing good will come of it.”  Anthony was apprehensive and when Joshua tried to assure him that Nate knew what he was doing, he snapped back at his friend and stormed out of the room, muttering under his breath.

Alexandra tried talking to Naomi but she couldn’t get through to her either. She looked right through her with vacant eyes and caressed Alyssa’s face, murmuring over and over that she was a “pretty lady.”  They asked if I thought she was on something and I had to let them know that I wasn’t sure. “She didn’t recognize me either, I don’t know what’s wrong. I didn’t think she’d taken anything at first, but this is all starting to look like a trip, a trip that’s gone really wrong.”

Nathaniel and Joshua were standing in the corner, clearly talking about something that we weren’t supposed to hear. I just prayed that they weren’t about to take her down town for a drug test. The whole time they were whispering, Nate never took his eyes off me. I hated it when he looked at me like that, he could always draw me in with his stunningly chocolate eyes, and even though I needed to stay focused for Naomi, somehow I just couldn't help but to stare right back at him.

A few minutes later, Anthony finally returned with a small capsule which Nathaniel took and placed under Naomi’s nose. It was amazing, within seconds she began to breath quickly and slowly but surely came back to her normal self. When she snapped out of whatever she was on, she was shocked to find all of us in her office. “What happened?” She asked me, confused. She couldn’t remember anything from the last couple of hours.

I talked her through what had gone on, from when I found her sitting at her desk until now; she had no recollection of doing any of those things. I believed her because she couldn't fake an embarrassment like that even if she tried.  She looked exhausted and said that all she wanted to do was sleep.

Alyssa suggested we take her to the hospital for a checkup and we all agreed that it was the safest decision. We still didn’t know what had happened to her, so if she had been on drugs, the results would tell.

REVIEW - Broken Truth by Beth Ashworth

Life for Charlotte (Charlie) Harris couldn’t be any better at this moment in time. She has her dream job, she has the extremely wealthy knight in shining armour and she has the best friends a girl could ever ask for. On paper, the beautiful world unfolding at her feet almost appears too good to be true for a working class girl from Manchester right?

But what happens when you gloss over the statistics and realise that the happy bubble you have been living in for the past fifteen months has all been a twisted, torturous path of lies? What if you realised that the person you loved wasn’t who they claimed to be any longer?

With the once sacred and happy memories now turned into hatred and despair, Charlie must now follow her instincts to either forget her past and move on or force the hand that holds the cards to her life to reshuffle the deck before it leads onto the twisted future that lies in store.

What will she choose?

Can she forgive and forget for the only man her heart has ever loved?

(Please note that this book contains strong language and graphic scenes of a sexual nature which are intended for a more mature audience.)

The one thing I have enjoyed more than anything since starting this blog has been the opportunity to read and review some fantastic novels, whether it is from established authors, or new authors.  So when the chance to read and ARC for Beth Ashworth's debut novel came up, I didn't have to think too long after having read the blurb.  Am I glad I took that opportunity now?  Hell yes!

Charlie (Charlotte) is working two jobs, to try to pay off her credit card bills.  By day she has an apprenticeship in an upmarket boutique, that she is hoping will turn into a well paid permanent position.  At night she is a part-time waitress.  It is when she is waitressing one Saturday night that she meets Callum Ellis.  The attraction is instant, the chemistry is potent.

We pick up the story thirteen months after that evening, when Charlie and Callum are in a happy, steady relationship.  Charlie has moved in with Callum and their sex life is the envy of her friends Lucy and Amelia!  Their life is perfect, sort off...  Without giving too much away regarding the story line I will only say that when Charlie and Callum are together, they are the centre of each others world, but things start to slowly untangle, leaving Charlie to question their commitment to each other.

Things come to a head about half way through.  This is when I was forced to take a break from the book as I was having trouble focusing through the tears!  I don't often experience leaking eyes when reading, but when I do, I know that what I am reading has pulled me in and gripped me completely.  I can say hand on heart, I can count on one hand the amount of authors who have been able to pull that type of reaction from me!

While the first part of the book is all about the happy life Charlie and Callum have carved out together, the second half is much more emotional.  It deals with the devastation as Charlie tries to pick up the pieces of her life and move on.  I found myself hoping they would speak to each other and sort it out.  Then I would be thinking, screw him, move on, be strong.  All the conflicting emotions you feel when a relationship that you thought was forever, turns out to be a lie, were all felt.  I could feel myself balancing on that knife edge with Charlie, the confusion between 'I still love him, I don't want to move on' to the 'stuff him (or stronger words, if you are like me!!) he did this to us, not me'.  All of these emotions swirling around and changing in a heart beat, were so well written I could feel myself going through them also.  Despite this, I still didn't hate Callum's character.  I knew that there was more to this than met the eye and secretly held out hope that they would find their way back to each other. It's a clever piece of writing by the author to still have you holding on to the hope that everything would work out, despite what had happened.  Although at the same time I'd be cheering slightly everytime Charlie made a decision that would make her stronger and whole again.

As Charlie pulls herself together and finds the strength to make significant changes in her life, things take another twist and this is when the full picture is revealed.

Would I recommend this book?  Absolutely, without hesitation.
Do I think this author is one to watch out for in the future?  Definitely.

COVER REVEAL - Last Shadow by Pepper Winters

This is a dark romance and if the book is anywhere near as good as the cover, I for one will be looking forward to it's release in April 2014!

A New Adult Dark Contemporary Romance, not suitable for people sensitive to slavery, cruelty, and non-consensual sex. A story about a killer with no remorse, a woman living in nightmares, and a future that binds them in servitude.

I’m named after the blackest of shadows. Conjured from earth, created by demons, molded by fire to become the perfect killer. I need no-one. I feel nothing. I am nobody… until her.

My name is of no consequence, they sometimes call me whore, slut, or possession. I dance by night and waste away by day. Every foul moment of this life is replaced with my hopes and dreams, inked onto my skin for the world to see. I have a promise to keep. I will be free—it’s only a matter of time…until him.

Pepper Winters wears many roles. Some of them include writer, reader, sometimes wife. She loves dark, taboo stories that twist with your head. The more tortured the hero, the better, and she constantly thinks up ways to break and fix her characters. Oh, and sex… her books have sex.

She loves to travel and has an amazing, fabulous hubby who puts up with her love affair with her book boyfriends.

Her debut book Tears of Tess will be followed with Quintessentially Q. You didn’t think Q could stop so soon, did you? Her other two titles, Last Shadow and Broken Chance will be coming soon.

If you haven’t read Pepper’s best-seller Tears of Tess, now is a perfect time just before Quintessentially Q hits the shelves in December.
