REVIEW - Crown of Lies by Pepper Winters

33028674

TITLE: Crown of Lies
AUTHOR: Pepper Winters
SERIES: Truth and Lies Duet
GENRE: Dark Romance

DATE OF RELEASE: 31st January 2017

From New York Times Bestseller, Pepper Winters, comes a delicious sinful hero.

“I met the man I wanted. But then he vanished, and a new man claimed me instead. My father approved, my colleagues congratulated, and behind closed doors, I was bedded by a stranger.”

Noelle Charlston lives a fairy-tale life: a doting father, a powerful job, and a future blessed with financial security.

However, two meetings with two men changes her happy existence forever. First, she meets the man who makes her heart sing. Three years later, she meets the man who makes her blood quiver.

Broken-hearted from a teenage romance, Noelle’s freedom is no longer hers. It belongs to the stranger her father believes is her perfect match. The stranger who pulls his lies over everyone he touches.

Including her.

Seduced and manipulated, Noelle gives into the mysterious Penn Everett. The lies he spins, the truth he hides, the mystery he weaves—it’s all enough to slowly erode the woman she is and turn her into something else.

Until her past collides with her present.
And it’s her turn to lie.
To everyone…including herself.

OMG! My heart is racing. THAT ending! Oh. My. God!

I haven't read a book by Pepper Winters for ages as I've been patiently waiting on her Dollars Series to be complete. So when this one came up in jumped in as soon as I could I was not disappointed. It is fantastic.

Pepper's writing always has me turning pages and this was no different.

Elle has been protected all her life, so she craves freedom, like all teenagers. One night changes everything for her.

As she grows older her main focus is her work. She has no time for men or partying. Enter Penn...

Penn is a strange mixture of mysterious, dark and caring all rolled into one very complex character. He commands your attention and makes you love And hate him in equal measure.

Elle and Penn make an explosive combination together in so many different ways. Pepper's pure genius keeps you hooked, desperate to know how things will turn out for them.

Penn leaves more questions unanswered than answered. For every one he does answer, there are even more that form as a result of that answer.

Elle goes from a naive teenager into a strong no nonsense young adult. She finds her backbone and stands up for herself.

The end of the book is left on a serious cliffhanger but thankfully it's not long to wait for answers.
Until then, I may just have to read this again as I can't seem to get enough of Penn.

REVIEW - Torn by Carian Cole

TITLE: Torn
AUTHOR: Carian Cole
SERIES: Devils Wolves
GENRE: Contemporary MC

DATE OF RELEASE:  August 2016

** Please note: There is no underage sex in this book. This is a romance. **

He’s loved me since the day I was born.
He’s taken care of me.
He’s awakened me.

Tor. My father’s best friend.
Fifteen years older than me, he’s always been my protector.
The one I should never, ever want.
But I was born to be his.

She’s always loved me.
She’s shattered me.
She’s healed me.

Kenzi. My best friend’s daughter.
I held her the day she was born, and I never let go.
She’s forbidden to me. But she’s the only one that really gets me.
We’re slowly being torn apart by everything we love.
Everything we want.
Everything we desire.

And now I want the one thing I can’t have... I want her.

Amazing story. From the very start I was pulled in and had no option but to continue.
The  little glimpses of Kenzi and Toren in previous years added anther dimension to the story.  Gradually building the bigger picture and showing you how their relationship grew and developed as they both grew and developed over the years.
I loved this book and now I will looking out for more from this author.

GENRE: Contemporary Romance

DATE OF RELEASE: 31st March 2016
TOUR ORGANISERS: Ink Slinger PR

"Instincts are what keep us safe from fate. Ignoring them can change your life forever."
Fame and fortune arrived overnight and after months on the road with her singing tour, all Estelle craves is peace. Tired and ready for paradise, she travels to Fiji to recuperate.
Stubborn and surly, Galloway is avoided by most - which is exactly the way he likes it. However, he's done spending his life in regret and hopes to find redemption in the tropical wilderness.
Together, they board the flight that changes their fate forever. Crash landing on a deserted island, they not only have to figure out how to survive with no skills and daily dangers - learning how to fish, find water, and build shelter - but also inherit two children who look to them to keep them alive.
However, staying alive might be the least of Galloway and Estelle's problems. As days creep to months and rescue doesn't find them, their desire for each other ignites.
They started as strangers.
They grew to be friends.
They fought the desire to be lovers.
Lust can be the most beautiful thing. Love the most rewarding. But not on an island where life hangs by a thread and giving into temptation can kill you.
Can they survive being forgotten or will love be their ultimate undoing?
From New York Times Bestseller Pepper Winters comes a timeless love story answering the question of what happens when everything is stripped away.

I don't think I can actually portray just how much this book has affected me. Seriously, this has to be the best book I have read in a very long time. I don't mean that to sound flippant, because it is anything but.
As many people will know, I have loved Pepper Winters' writing for a long time. Ever since I read Tears of Tess, I was hooked on everything she wrote. I totally fangirled when I met her in Edinburgh in 2014. However, if I was to meet her today, I can't even imagine how I could begin to tell her just how much this book took over my life. I felt like I was living and breathing the characters. Let me tell you this book held me captive from the word 'Prologue'.
I thought writing this review would be easy, because I loved the book so much, but let me tell you, I think this will go down as the hardest one I have ever written.  Why? Because I want to gush and tell you all about it. I want to tell you how certain bits made me feel. But I can't, because in doing so I would give so much away.
So this is what I am going to do. I am going to tell you why this qualifies for my Top Read of 2016. I am going to tell you how I felt at various points of the storyline. Hopefully, you will then have an understanding why this book may just be the best book I have read. EVER!
So why does this qualify for my Top Read of 2016, when we are only in March? Well that is easy. From the outset, and by the outset I mean when I first read the blurb, I knew this was not going to be the usual book I have come to love and expect from (in my humble opinion) one of the best writers of her genre. This was way of the track from what Pepper has ever written. She told us not to expect Dark and I couldn't wait to see one of my favourite authors write something else, entirely. So she literally had me panting right of the bat. But then I worried, was I expecting too much, but my heart said 'No'. Then I got my hands on the book and straight away I was done for. Hook, line and sinker. I may as well have had a sign above me saying 'Do Not Disturb', because I was watching the book play out in my head like an Oscar Winning Movie. I can't remember the last time I felt this absorbed in a book, that it felt like I was there, hiding in the background, watching it all unfold before my very own eyes. So, for that reason and a thousand others, this is why it qualifies as my Top Read for 2016.
Due to feeling like I was a 'fly on the wall', so to speak, to the events as they unfolded throughout the storyline, I felt a massive range of emotions. From feeling sick when someone was in pain, to feeling relief when things went right, to feeling utter devastation when things went horribly wrong. Those are just some of the range of emotions this book brought out in me. I wept, I smiled, I laughed, I sobbed and I broke my heart then wept some more. Some were happy tears, some were sad and some were just borne from the sheer relief of how things evolved. I am currently sitting here feeling like I have lost a friend, because I have finished the book. I want to start all over again, but I really don't think my emotional state could handle it just now. So for the foreseeable future, I will be bookless, mourning the passing of one of the best books I have read to date.

Book Synopsis

Two men want me and I, them. Simple, right? Not like this.
For over two years, I’ve been dealing with a pain in the ass MY way.
Separately.
She has her life and I have mine. They don’t intermingle. It’s the only way to keep things rational. But now she’s done something monumentally stupid and the only way to untangle myself from her mess is to live life in her shoes. Me, on the run in five inch stilettos. Great.
My name is Trista Dividir. I have Dissociative Identity Disorder and Marvy is my other personality, my alter.
To get my life back, I lie, I cheat, and I fall for both of her lovers. Little do I know, I am not the only liar.
Did I mention I have another alter? Yeah, I didn’t know about her either.
Book one in a three part romantic suspense series with a smattering of smexy in between. In the end, you’ll find your HEA…maybe.
Due to mature content and excessive whatever, this is a recommended read for age 18+

So I started reading this at an 'acceptable' hour. The next thing I know it is 2am and I'm saying to myself, just one more chapter... I knew I was not going to be able to read this at night again, or I would be a sleep deprived zombie!  Seriously though, I think this book is fantastic. And hot!

SVC Ricketts, does a fantastic job of drawing the differences between Trista and Marvy. They are the complete opposite of each other. Trista is a 'good girl'.  She is focused on her education, getting good grades and going to college. She also has a part time job which allows her geeky side to shine through. It is her geeky side that saves her on so many occasions. Marvy, on the other hand is reckless with everything from Trista's money to her body, from her health to her morals. When we first meet Marvy, the lack of respect she has for Trista's way of life is clear. Trista, resents Marvy. She resents her ability to apply her own make up, her confidence and her sexy demeanour.

Until now, their lives have remained apart. However, their world's are about to collide in dramatic style. A seemingly easy task of picking up her car, introduces Trista to some of the players in Marvy's life. The innocence of Trista combined with Marvy's brazen, devil may care attitude was brilliant. They both have a dislike for the other. But their opinions about the other, shifts as the story unfolds. Trista finds a new confidence and Marvy's vulnerable side emerges. Marvy knows more about Trista's other alters than she let's on. Which only raises more questions.  I can't wait for the next books in this series to see how things work out and who Trista finds her HEA with. I know who I want it to be with!
The end is not a huge cliffhanger (thankfully) but it will make you want book 2 now (hint, hint!)

As an avid reader from a very early age, Beth has always been keen to put her words onto paper. As a child she was always found with either a book in her hand, a pen and notepad or a computer games controller.

Starting off by initially writing alternate endings to her favourite Jacqueline Wilson books from around the age of ten, Beth has continued to grow and love her passion for books.

Eventually, after many unfinished books and short stories, she finally decided to follow her passion and write books that she hopes people will love.

When she isn't reading or writing, Beth loves to spend time with her husband and friends.
